About the Role
An established renewable energy platform with a growing portfolio of utility-scale storage and generation assets is seeking a Senior Battery Trader to join its expanding Energy Markets function.
This role will focus on optimising Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) revenue across the wholesale electricity market through day-ahead and intraday trading strategies. Working closely with market analysts, operational teams, and internal developers, the successful candidate will contribute to both live trading activity and the ongoing enhancement of automated bidding and optimisation systems.
The position offers exposure to sophisticated trading strategies, fast-moving market dynamics, and the opportunity to help shape in-house tools and trading capability within a highly commercial environment.
The role operates on a rotating roster supporting extended market coverage, with a hybrid mix of control room and remote working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities
Trading & Market Operations
- Monitor wholesale electricity market conditions in real time and adjust trading strategies to optimise asset performance and revenue outcomes.
- Execute day-ahead and intraday trading activities for battery storage and flexible energy assets.
- Respond to changing market conditions, pricing events, network constraints, and operational risks as they emerge.
- Develop, test, and refine trading strategies designed to improve commercial performance across energy and ancillary service markets.
- Contribute to enhancement of automated bidding and optimisation frameworks.
- Assess the effectiveness and robustness of trading strategies through simulation and historical market analysis.
- Analyse market data, dispatch outcomes, pricing behaviour, and system conditions to identify trading opportunities and risks.
- Utilise internal analytics platforms and third-party market tools to support decision-making and performance optimisation.
- Work closely with analytics and technical teams to improve trading visibility, automation, and execution capability.
- Partner with cross-functional teams across trading, analytics, and operations to enhance market performance and operational processes.
- Support the ongoing evolution of internal trading systems, reporting capability, and market analytics frameworks.
- Contribute to a collaborative, commercially focused team environment.
- Experience within electricity trading, energy markets, or quantitative trading environments, ideally within the Australian NEM or a comparable wholesale power market.
- Strong understanding of spot market behaviour, dispatch processes, bidding dynamics, and price formation.
- Proven ability to execute and adapt trading strategies within fast-moving market conditions.
- Experience analysing historical market data to evaluate and improve trading performance.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex market information and translate it into commercial decisions.
- Experience working alongside analytics or development teams to improve trading systems, modelling, or automation capability.
- Familiarity with analytical and data tools such as Python, SQL, R, or similar technologies is advantageous.
- Experience trading or optimising battery storage assets or other flexible generation technologies.
- Exposure to automated bidding systems or algorithmic trading frameworks within energy markets.
- Knowledge of ancillary service markets and co-optimisation strategies.
- Previous experience within trading operations, market operations, or energy portfolio optimisation functions.
- Commercially driven with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.
- Comfortable operating in a dynamic, high-pressure market environment.
- Pragmatic, collaborative, and solutions-oriented in approach.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
