Phillip Riley has partnered with a Tier 1 consultancy looking for an experienced Technical Director – Secondary & Protection to lead the delivery of innovative electrical design solutions. This role is based in Melbourne and interstate relocation can be considered.

In this role, you’ll combine technical leadership with strategic thinking, guiding major projects, mentoring junior engineers, and helping shape the direction of a business that’s driving the energy transition.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee and provide technical leadership across secondary designs and protection settings for complex HV substation projects.
• Provide technical leadership across bids, proposals, and project pursuits, identifying new opportunities for growth.
• Manage the delivery of multidisciplinary design projects, ensuring collaboration and quality at every stage.
• Support and mentor engineers in their professional development
• Promote innovation and continuous improvement in engineering design and delivery.

What You’ll Bring

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 12+ years of experience in high-voltage substation design.
• Strong background in secondary systems and protection settings.
• Excellent consulting and client relationship skills, with a strong commercial mindset.
• A collaborative leadership style and passion for mentoring junior team members.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to turn technical detail into actionable outcomes.
