Head of Engineering – Renewable Energy Developer 📍 Melbourne, VIC | Executive Leadership | Utility-Scale Projects

An established and rapidly growing renewable energy developer is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead and scale its technical function across a diverse portfolio of utility-scale projects. This is a key leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape engineering strategy and play a pivotal part in Australia’s energy transition.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the executive team, you will be responsible for leading all engineering activities across the project lifecycle - from early-stage development through to construction and operations. You will build and mentor a high-performing engineering team while ensuring technical excellence across solar, BESS, and hybrid projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering strategy and technical direction of utility-scale renewable projects (solar, BESS, hybrid)
• Oversee design, grid connection, and technical due diligence processes
• Manage and grow an internal engineering team, fostering a high-performance culture
• Act as the technical authority across development, EPC, and delivery phases
• Drive optimisation of project design to improve performance, cost, and bankability
• Collaborate with external consultants, OEMs, NSPs, and regulatory bodies
• Support commercial and investment decisions with technical insight and risk assessment

About You

• Extensive experience in renewable energy engineering, with a strong focus on utility-scale projects
• Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Deep understanding of grid connection processes within the Australian market
• Experience across project lifecycle phases (development through to delivery/operations)
• Strong stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally
• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
