Generation Development Engineer

Permanent / Full Time

Lead Marlborough's renewable energy future. Deliver solar, wind and generation projects from concept to commissioning.

  • Lead the development of solar, wind and future generation projects across Marlbo
  • Circa $140k salary plus enhanced KiwiSaver, Southern Cross, insurance and more
  • Enjoy Marlborough's lifestyle while helping deliver renewable energy projects
For over 100 years, Marlborough Lines has played a critical role in powering one of New Zealand’s most productive and beautiful regions. Today, through its generation subsidiary Energy Marlborough, the business is embarking on an ambitious journey to develop a significant portfolio of renewable energy assets that will help shape the future of electricity generation in the region.

This is not a role where you’ll inherit a mature generation portfolio and simply maintain the status quo.

This is an opportunity to help create it.

Energy Marlborough has already delivered the Taylor Pass Solar Farm, commissioned the 4MW Seaview Solar Farm, has the 9MW Ward Solar Farm under development, and has a long-term vision to own 50MW of renewable generation by 2030. Current opportunities are focused on solar and wind generation, with future technologies also being actively explored.

As Generation Development Engineer, you will act as the lead engineering authority across generation development projects, providing technical leadership from concept and feasibility through design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational handover. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, landowners and community groups to help deliver projects that will directly benefit Marlborough’s electricity consumers.

We’re interested in speaking with electrical engineers who enjoy operating at the intersection of engineering, project development and commercial decision making. You may currently be working in renewable energy development, power generation, transmission, distribution, consulting engineering or major infrastructure projects.

Experience in large-scale solar PV generation would be highly regarded, however we’re equally interested in engineers with strong project delivery capability, power systems knowledge and a genuine passion for renewable energy development.

What makes this opportunity particularly unique is the scale of influence you’ll have. You’ll be joining a highly respected regional utility where your work will have a visible and lasting impact on the future energy security, sustainability and economic growth of the region.

Alongside the opportunity to help shape Marlborough's renewable energy future, Marlborough Lines offers a highly attractive employment package designed to support both your professional and personal wellbeing.

The salary package is circa $140,000, complemented by a generous benefits programme including Southern Cross medical insurance, income protection and life insurance, a $500 annual health and wellbeing allowance, birthday leave and volunteer leave. Marlborough Lines also offers enhanced KiwiSaver contributions, increasing from 3.5% to 5% after five years of service.

Importantly, this is an organisation that takes a long-term view of its people. The team is known for its strong culture, stability and commitment to investing in employees who want to make a meaningful contribution to the future of the region.

And then there’s Marlborough.

With more sunshine hours than almost anywhere else in New Zealand, Marlborough offers an outstanding lifestyle. Whether it’s world-class mountain biking, boating in the Marlborough Sounds, fishing, tramping, wine country, or simply escaping the traffic and cost of larger centres, Marlborough provides an exceptional balance between career and lifestyle.

For engineers looking to work on meaningful renewable energy projects while enjoying one of New Zealand’s most sought-after regions, opportunities like this don’t come along often.
