About the role:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for securing new work across major energy, mining, and infrastructure projects throughout Australia’s Eastern States. The role focuses on developing client relationships, building a strong opportunity pipeline, and leading proposals and negotiations to successfully convert complex project opportunities into contracted work.
What will you be doing:
- Sales & Business Development - Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of major HV project opportunities (including thermal, solar, battery energy storage and HV infrastructure) across Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
- Quoting, Tenders & CRM Management - Prepare and present compelling technical and commercial proposals.
- Operational & Stakeholder Collaboration - Participate in weekly sales meetings and contribute market intelligence
- Commercial & Business Performance - Success will be measured by revenue and margin growth, quality market and customer feedback, and strong tender conversion and strike rate performance
- Customer Experience & Risk Management - Deliver a high standard of customer service by proactively managing feedback and issues while promoting and protecting the PBE Rutherford brand in all interactions.
About you:
- Proven business development experience across mining, power generation, HV infrastructure, or renewable energy sectors, with exposure to utility-scale projects across Australia.
- Strong track record engaging with EPCs, IPPs, utilities, OEMs, developers, and major contractors on complex infrastructure and energy projects.
- Demonstrated success leading tendering, commercial negotiations, and long-cycle sales processes to achieve revenue and margin targets.
- Commercially astute relationship builder with strong technical understanding, excellent communication skills, and the ability to deliver commercially viable solutions.
In six months, you have established a strong presence for PBE Rutherford in the Queensland market, building meaningful relationships with key clients across mining, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. You’ve identified and progressed high-quality opportunities, contributed to a healthy pipeline of work, and secured new business that aligns with our strategic growth objectives. Internally, you’re a trusted collaborator, working closely with operations to ensure seamless delivery and setting the foundation for long-term, sustainable growth.
