Groundline Engineering | Christchurch
Most transmission engineering consultancies eventually drift away from engineering.
Layers of management appear. Decisions slow down. Good engineers spend more time navigating process than solving problems.
Groundline has deliberately resisted that.
They’ve built a business around technically capable people doing meaningful work together — without the politics and bureaucracy that often come with larger firms. It’s why they’ve developed such a strong reputation across the transmission sector, and why they continue to attract technically challenging projects across New Zealand and Australia.
Groundline is now looking to appoint both an Intermediate and Senior Transmission Line Engineer to the Christchurch team.
These roles are for engineers who still care about the technical side of the industry. People who enjoy solving difficult problems, collaborating with smart colleagues and delivering practical outcomes for critical infrastructure projects.
You’ll work across major transmission and renewable energy developments involving:
- overhead line design
- tower, pole and foundation analysis
- construction staging
- line upgrades and asset replacement projects
- and detailed modelling using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER.
There’s a genuine trust in the capability of the people here. Engineers are given autonomy. Senior people stay close to projects. Good ideas are listened to regardless of title. And because the business remains nimble, people can influence outcomes rather than simply feeding into someone else’s machine.
For Intermediate Engineers, this is the kind of environment where development accelerates quickly. You’ll work alongside highly experienced transmission specialists who are invested in mentoring and sharing knowledge, while still being trusted with meaningful responsibility early.
For Senior Engineers, the opportunity is broader again. You’ll lead projects, mentor engineers, strengthen client relationships and play a visible role in the continued growth of a business that is quietly becoming one of the more respected specialist players in the market.
What’s in it for you?
Groundline offers a genuinely strong package alongside the opportunity to work in a highly technical and collaborative engineering environment.
Depending on experience, remuneration is expected to sit around:
- Intermediate Engineer: $100,000 – $130,000
- Senior Engineer: $140,000 – $160,000
Additional benefits include:
- flexible working arrangements (after 3 months)
- relocation assistance within New Zealand where required
- strong technical mentoring and career development
- exposure to major transmission and renewable energy projects
- and the opportunity to work within a business where engineers still have influence.
For the Senior role, Groundline is also open to candidates based in other major NZ centres with easy access to domestic flights.
