A rapidly growing, well-funded renewable energy developer is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead technical strategy, deliver complex onshore wind projects, and build a high-performing engineering function in Japan.

Backed by leading global infrastructure investors and a top-tier Japanese renewable energy group, the platform already controls late-stage wind assets and a significant development pipeline across Japan and APAC.

The Role

The Head of Engineering will oversee all technical aspects of onshore wind development, ensuring engineering excellence across planning, design, optimisation, execution, and stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with development, construction, and commercial teams to maximise value and deliver successful utility-scale wind assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and expand the engineering capability and culture within the organisation
  • Drive technical project execution across development, construction, site assessment, and stakeholder coordination
  • Partner closely with development teams to optimise cost, schedule, quality, risk, and technical performance
  • Establish and maintain relationships with utilities, government agencies, turbine OEMs, EPCs, certification bodies, and key industry partners
  • Oversee technical due diligence, project reviews, and scope management for EPC packages
  • Attend site visits, public/stakeholder meetings, and industry engagements as needed
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineering talent to build a high-performing team
  • Support business development activities with technical analysis and input
Experience & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related)
  • 10+ years project execution experience, ideally 5+ years leading engineering teams in onshore wind
  • Proven track record delivering or constructing power assets in Japan
  • Strong technical and commercial capability; analytical mindset
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership skills
  • Business-level Japanese & English (oral and written)
  • Global / multinational project experience welcomed
