Senior leadership role | Australian market focus | Energy storage & clean-tech growth | Newly created position
Phillip Riley is working with an innovative player in the renewable energy storage space, supporting them in appointing a Head of Business Development to lead their market presence across Australia. This organisation is scaling quickly, backed by strong technology foundations and a long-term growth outlook. They’re now looking for someone with industry know-how who can shape the commercial strategy, build partnerships, and drive meaningful market traction.
Location: Melbourne - they will consider candidates based in other Eastern states.
Role: Head of BD (moving into a GM role)
Salary: Negotiable, but likely mid $200’s with equity and bonuses.
About the Role
This newly created position will take charge of the company’s commercial expansion in Australia, building and guiding the go-to-market function while overseeing existing BD team members. You’ll be defining strategy, refining market positioning, and leading engagement with developers, utilities and large C&I energy users.
The role spans everything from opportunity development through to complex technical-commercial sales cycles, requiring someone who’s comfortable operating across projects, partnerships, and product alignment. You’ll also collaborate closely with marketing and product teams to ensure customer needs, brand presence and commercial execution all move in the same direction.
You will have a number of partnerships to develop from day one, and their unique technology is a key differentiator for them in Australia. They are well funded and primed to be a household name in both the C&I and large-scale utility space.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the rollout of innovative energy-storage solutions into the Australian market.
- Build strategic partnerships with key players across renewable energy and C&I sectors.
- Develop and convert a pipeline of opportunities across distributed and front-of-meter markets.
- Navigate complex procurement processes, articulating a strong technical-commercial value proposition.
- Support delivery, operations and customer-success functions to ensure projects hit their mark.
- Contribute to product roadmap discussions with insights from Australian customer needs.
You’ll be someone who properly understands how renewable energy projects get off the ground in Australia—be that from a developer, OEM, utility, or C&I lens. You’ve got a strong track record in business development, ideally within battery storage or complex energy systems, and you know how to drive outcomes without endless faff.
We’re after a leader who’s commercially sharp, confident navigating financial or technical nuances, and comfortable working in smaller, fast-paced teams where resourcefulness is part of the daily rhythm. A strong network across the Australian energy ecosystem will go a long way here, as will experience winning complex deals and building long-term partnerships.
What’s on Offer
Competitive salary, performance incentives, hybrid working, development support, and the chance to help shape the direction of an ambitious clean-tech business. This is a cracking opportunity for someone wanting to step into a role with real influence and a fair bit of autonomy.
