With several large-scale storage projects either operational or progressing through delivery, the Energy Markets function plays a key role in optimising asset performance, supporting commercial strategy, and informing future investment and development decisions across the portfolio.
The Role This opportunity offers direct exposure to the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM), working closely with experienced market participants and trading professionals within a highly commercial environment.
Joining the Market Analytics team, you will provide detailed analysis and insights that support real-time trading activity, asset optimisation, and market strategy. The role also offers strong long-term progression opportunities into broader commercial or trading-focused positions.
This position would suit someone who enjoys interpreting complex market behaviour, working with large datasets, and contributing to decision-making in a fast-moving energy market environment.
Key Responsibilities
Market & Trading Analytics
- Analyse daily market outcomes including pricing behaviour, dispatch dynamics, and key system drivers impacting trading performance.
- Review significant market events and volatility periods, identifying contributing factors such as transmission constraints, renewable intermittency, outages, and demand shifts.
- Assess asset performance against market conditions, identifying revenue opportunities and operational trends.
- Deliver concise and commercially focused insights to support trading and optimisation activities.
- Monitor core NEM fundamentals including demand, generation availability, interconnector flows, renewable output, and network conditions.
- Identify developing market trends, pricing risks, and emerging opportunities across the power system.
- Develop and maintain recurring market and performance reporting for internal stakeholders.
- Build and improve dashboards, analytical tools, and reporting frameworks to enhance market visibility and decision-making capability.
- Support ongoing improvement of data processes and analytical infrastructure.
- Assist with development and refinement of short-term forecasting models across areas such as price, demand, and renewable generation.
- Apply data-driven analysis to improve forecast accuracy and modelling capability over time.
- Prior experience within the Australian electricity market or a comparable wholesale energy market environment.
- Exposure to analysing market outcomes, dispatch behaviour, or power system events.
- Strong understanding of electricity market fundamentals and operational drivers.
- Strong analytical and data handling skills using tools such as Python and/or SQL.
- Experience working with market datasets and time-series data.
- Familiarity with visualisation and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Interest in applying automation, AI, or machine learning techniques to improve analytical workflows and market insight generation.
- Exposure to energy trading, market operations, or commercial analytics functions.
- Understanding of dispatch processes, bidding behaviour, and transmission/network constraints.
- Experience analysing battery storage, renewable generation, or flexible energy assets.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex market information clearly and commercially.
- Comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with high levels of market activity.
